Operation Un-Swaddle - Mission Failed

The saga continues...

Now that Morgan is four months old, we've been anticipating when we'd go without the Miracle Blanket (MB), the swaddle blanket we use at night. As mentioned in an earlier blog, Morgan is starting to break out of her blanket more often so we think it's time to stop using it.

We intended on stopping use of this blanket earlier, but Morgan's Grandma and Grandpa B came to town and then she came down with a stomach virus. David and I had our weekend "away" on that weekend and then we thought it would be too much for her to deal with to learn to sleep without it when she wasn't feeling well.

So, as of last Sunday she was feeling much better and in anticipation of Grandma and Grandpa A coming to visit, we decided to try to go without it last night. Big mistake. We learned that it going to take much more patience to break the habit. Morgan woke up 3 times between 8:00 pm and 10:30 pm and could not get herself back to sleep without our help. About 11:00 we decided to abort the mission and wrap her back up in the MB. I rocked her for about 30 seconds and she was peacefully asleep again.

After doing some more research and re-reading some advice I received in some blog comments, we've decided to wait until the weekend after next (the 25th-27th) to attempt this operation again. We really need to do it on a weekend so we can be patient with the muptiple wakings and comforting sessions. Since Grandma and Grandpa will be in town this weekend we will continue to use the MB as usual so all of us can sleep.

So, enjoy your Miracle Blanket little one...a date has been set and your days in sweet swaddle-dom are numbered!
