Bathing Beauties

Please excuse the phone pic...not as high-res as our other camera. This is Morgan and Piper's first successful bath together. Piper had not been too stable during other tries, but she did great this time! They played nicely together and no one seemed to mind sharing. I think this will be really fun for them as they interact more and more. It is also easier on Mom and Dad (and especially when David goes out of town), as we don't have to do two separate baths. Buh-bye baby tub!!

David told me it would happen...I didn't believe him. Morgan is now 19 months old and it had not happened yet.

Friday night she pooped in the bathtub.

Hello my little friend!

Morgan has discovered a new "friend" at bath time! You know that "drain cover thing" between the faucet and the drain...you know, the thing that helps drain the water if it gets too high in the tub? I don't know what it's called. Well, ours has a chrome cover on it. Morgan is just the right height sitting now that she can see herself in it. The other night she started smiling, doing "SO BIG" and then she blew herself a kiss! Last night I sat in the "big" tub with her and she started doing the same thing. She is always amused when she sees herself in a mirror anyway. She was having such a great time "playing" with her friend! Such a silly Boo Boo!

...in the meantime, Morgan has a new "trick." It's actually not that new as she's been doing it for a few weeks. I can't believe I haven't posted about it yet, but it's about time.

We consider Morgan's first word to be "duck." When she says it, it sounds like "duh." She first said it in the bathtub when playing with her rubber duckies. I also like to sing the song "Old MacDonald" to her a lot. She is fascinated with this song and will always stop what she's doing to listen. It comes in handy when she is trying to grab the remote or something else mischevious.

Somewhere along the way she connected the ducky in the bathtub to the duck in the song. As you know, in the song you have a choice of animals to say when the time comes and I use duck a lot because it is easy to make the "quack quack" sounds. I don't like the animals like a horse or a sheep where it's hard to make their sounds. I do them every once in a while, but not too often.

Well...not too long ago when singing this song I noticed she was saying "duh" while I was singing it. I really can't remember how this happened, but now when we sing "and on that farm he had a..." then you say the name of the animal, she says "duh." Most of time it was right on time with the song too! She also punctuates the end of the verse by saying "duh" again. Too cute! And the kicker is that now when she wants you to sing Old MacDonald she says "duh" "duh" "duh" until you start singing, then she gets the biggest smile on her face! She also just got a farm themed "see and say" toy for her birthday that has Old MacDonald on it. She does the same thing with the recorded music and says "duh" when it gets to that point in the song.

We still don't believe this, but David and I found ourselves demonstrating this skill in the doctor's office yesterday. Our pediatrician is really nice and we thought she'd get a kick out of it. She said we needed to videotape it...unfortunately we only have video on our camera, but we might give it a try.

So for now Morgan really only has interest in the ducks on Old MacDonald's farm. Every time I try another animal she just keeps saying "duh." Hopefully she'll learn some other animal sounds someday.

Ducky Drama Done

As I'm sure you've been waiting to hear, the ducky drama is over! Last night we had a successful bath in the ducky tub. No tears, no trauma, just a lot of splashing and babbling. Yay! Here's a picture from a day or two ago when Morgan was investigating where the quacking noises were coming from. We're glad to be done with this saga.

Splish-Splash

Morgan has learned how to splash with her hands! Well...her left hand. Two nights ago she was in the bathtub and I finished washing her. As we do lately, I turned her around in the tub so she could sit straight up and play for a bit. She likes to play with two little toy ducks. In the past she had splashed a little with her legs, but not quite as much lately. While she is playing she is always fascinated with the pink "pad" on the other side of the tub. This is the cushioned part on the side that is at an angle. She was touching it with her left hand and she moved her hand a little faster than usual causing the water to splash. I could almost see the wheels turning in her head as she put it together. Then she proceeded to splash again with her hand, she thought a bit more...then she splashed again...and again...and again, then she splashed some water in her eye. Oops! She stopped for just a second to consider this and decide if she was OK, then started to splash again harder and harder, splashing Mommy quite a lot in the process. She was very amused with herself.

Last night I was curious if she'd remember the splashing and sure enough, when we turned her around in the tub she started splashing again...again, only with only her left hand. Too hilarious! And tonight she added her legs to the equation. But...still only her left hand. Does this mean she will be a lefty? Who knows? I love watching this learning process. We're almost ready to give up the baby tub. I can't wait to see what fun she'll have in the big tub!

More Bathtime Fun

We play a little game before Morgan's bath each night. David does the goofy part most of the time as it's my job is to get the bath ready while he undresses Morgan and gets her ready. As soon as David hears me finish filling the bathtub and turn off the water...he starts speaking to Morgan in a frantic voice "oh no, your bath is ready, we've got to get there before the water gets cold." He then carries her into the hallway and starts running down it, passing by the bathroom several times, naked baby in his arms...pretending he can't find it. I hear him saying to Morgan "where's mommy? She's waiting for us so you can have your bath and we can't find the bathroom, oh no, where is it?!"

We just crack up everytime. The person in the bathroom gets the best laugh watching the cute, naked baby flying by the bathroom door. We do have to admit, this is really for our entertainment more than hers. From the several times I've played the other part, running up and down the hallway with Morgan, she sort of looks at me blankly, like she's saying, "geez, they're doing this again. Just get me to my bath already." Also, lately she's just much more interested in getting her toes in her mouth. David and I laugh so much, I think we are still convinced that she's going to laugh along with us someday. It's really quite hilarious. Anyway, here's a few shots of bath time:

Now that Morgan is sitting better on her own, when we finish the washing part of her bath we "flip" her to the other side of the bathtub so she can play a little. She loves her princess ducky!

She's also learned to splash with her feet/legs. I tried to capture the splashes, but really just got some ripples. Check out the baby fat! She's got some rolls!
