Morgan had her six month check-up at the dentist yesterday. I don't know what I was thinking bringing her in the day after Halloween! They actually did not eat as much candy as I thought they might. The trick or treating was the most fun.
Morgan did so well at her appointment. I am thrilled!! Well, actually, she didn't do everything they wanted her to do, but there was MAJOR progress. I give that staff major props for working with her and being patient.
The big success was that she allowed them to take x-rays of her teeth! I tried to prepare her a few days before that they were going to take "pictures" of her teeth. I think that helped, but the assistants did really well reading her cues and knowing when to back off and when to push her a little. She sat so well and bit on the "lollipop stick" and let that machine go around her head. I was just amazed!
Now, when it came down to trying to clean her teeth she wanted nothing to do with it. I could tell she was at her limit. The dentist was thrilled that they got the x-rays and thus, no cavities! She withstood the dentist checking around her mouth and putting on fluoride, but that was enough.
One step at a time, I always say. I'm so proud of my girl!

Rough Day (and Night)
Morgan woke up yesterday with a runny nose. At the time it was a clear runny, not an infected runny, so I chalked it up to teething. She also woke up really early...so I cheated and took her in bed with me so she'd sleep a few more hours.
Well...that backfired. She proceeded to refuse to take a nap in the morning and had a measly 30 minute one in the afternoon. She was SUPER cranky all day (so tired) and I knew I was in for it last night as well. If Morgan doesn't get at least one good nap during the day she sleeps terribly at night. By the end of the day I was also questioning the teething "diagnosis." She did a lot of sneezing all day and from time to time the runny nose would become an icky yellow color instead of clear. Yuck.
I was right about the night too. She protested greatly, but finally fell asleep at 8:30 pm. She woke up crying at both 9:00 and 11:00 (where I gave her a dose of Tylenol). She fell asleep for a few more hours, but woke up screaming at 2:00 am. Morgan randomly cries at night. It is usually brief and she goes back to sleep. Odd? I don't know if other kids do this, but its normal for her. This level of crying went on for a bit. I was concerned and went in her room to find her standing in her crib, banging on the front rail, her face red and wet from a combo of tears, snot and drool...just yelling at the top of her lungs. Wow. I decided to take her to bed with me. I figured if she settled down she was really OK, but if she still was crying after a while I'd contemplate calling the night nurse. She was so worked up it took her a bit to settle, but she did. At about 3:15 am I was able to take her back to her bed and she slept until 6:45 am.
So, as you can imagine, I'm dragging today. I think...indeed, she does have a cold because I'm not feeling so hot right now myself. I'm kind of bummed...I've been getting into a groove with a new spin class at the gym, but now I can't go because Morgan would sure to be rejected from the childcare for her icky runny nose. That's probably where she picked up up in the first place though. I'll have to make due with a long walk around the neighborhood.
I haven't ruled out the teething as well, so this is making for a rough combination right now. We'll see how the night goes tonight as David will be home from his road trip. As I write this Morgan has been sleeping for almost an hour. Wish me luck that this makes for a better day today!

A Toothy Grin
Morgan is cutting a mouthful of teeth lately. The first one showed up a few days before she was 7 months old and now a few days shy of 8 months she has cut FIVE teeth. That seems like a lot at once. We are certainly using our share of baby tylenol, teething tablets and toys to chomp on. Click on the next two pictures and you can see her bottom teeth pretty clearly.
Chomping on my fingers helps too...I also chomped on Mommy's finger today and made bite marks. Ouch!
As a side-note, where did this "binky baby" come from? When she was a newborn she couldn't hold a binky in her mouth to save her life. I had a few binkys in her toy basket because she likes to chew on them. A few days ago I was watching her playing and she popped one in her mouth and just kept on playing. I think we're in trouble now! Oh, and check out those "thunder thighs!"

While Daddy's Away...
...Morgan and Mommy will play. Nothing big to post about, but here's a few items from the past few days:
*I discovered yesterday that Morgan's other lower middle tooth is on it's way in. No wonder her usual biting on my shoulder (while I hug her of course) was more painful that usual. Ouch!
* We went to Storytime at the local Barnes & Noble today. There were a few other kids there. There is a story read and then a craft project. Hopefully when she's older she'll enjoy the crafts. She did seem pretty interested in the book and the story though.
* I gave Morgan mashed bananas today instead of pureed. She gagged, then looked at me like I was trying to poison her. Well, that didn't deter her from trying another bite. After three gagging episodes I decided she'd had enough for now. Like her Daddy, sometimes I wonder if she has an "off" button that tells her she's had enough food.

Teething...for real this time!!
Morgan is showing signs of getting more than one tooth! Last Thursday at daycare one the teachers commented on how she was getting a tooth. I'd been checking pretty regularly, but had not actually "seen" a tooth. It's tough to get her to move her tongue so I can actually see her gums. The teacher and I tried for a few minutes with no luck. When I picked her up later that day I got an opportunity to look again...and sure enough there is a little lower/middle tooth just below the gums ready to erupt!
Then, on Saturday Morgan and I were lying down for a nap. She was doing her usual fussing and I decided to inspect her upper gums. Well, what do we have here? I saw a TWO little white tips of teeth peeking through. Not her top middle teeth, but what I call her "fangs." I did a little research on the order of teeth and I found that as a rule the bottom middle teeth come in first, but after that it is random. I though she'd get her top middles ones next, but this was a surprise. We'll try to get some photos, but we probably won't be able to get much until they break the surface of her gums.
That teething fussiness is for real too. The last week she's been extra fussy, and some of it is combined with her having croup and a cold, but she is also showing all the classic teething signs: drooling more than ever, grabbing her ears, a low-grade fever, runny nose...I could go on and on. She also has been waking up more at night and needs a little extra soothing. Even so, most of the time she is still her happy, smiley self.
